學習語言需要強烈而持續的興致

對於大部分的人,學了兩年之後就會疲憊,求進步的動力很快就會降到零。

這是德國政府對外來移民學德文的調查結果。

正因為時間拉得比較長,我歸納出學習過程中會遇到的(很有趣的)不同階段

希望在此提供各位一個方向,知道自己進度到哪裡

隨著通過不同的階段建立自己的信心,就比較不會半途而廢 :)

Listening/Reading

(1) Trying to get the meanings - no time for anything else

(2) Starting to notice some grammar when/after you hear something

      這時會漸漸聽出文法,有時候要請對方再重複一遍確認,有時候聽完了會一直想為什麼文法是這樣 (如果搬到英語系國家,差不多半年至一年會達到這個階段)

(3) The language appears in your dream for the 1st time

      這時候已經漸漸進入你的潛意識 (距離階段2大約是幾個月至一年的時間)

(4) Connecting what you hear to emotions and images

      對語言產生感受和直覺

(5) Can control your own emotions after you hear something

      對於語言中傳遞的負面情感可以加以控制,不會完全被影響 (修行看個人囉)

Speaking/Writing

(1) Don't even know how to start a sentence

(2) Searching for words/grammar intensively before speaking/writing

(3) Can form many sentences fast enough but tongue gets twisted often

      舌頭的肌肉還需要一點練習就好了

(4) Having a picture in mind before you speak/write

      不用從母語翻譯成外語,直接從直覺翻成外語,就像你開口說母語一般

  • Hi Shining!

Thanks for your sharing! I have learned and made lot of progressing from your blog. In this article, I can't totally understand the fifth point of Listening and reading.

Why we shall not able to control our emotions after hearing something?
or "something", here, meant some insulting words?
If it's, is it something to do with "English learning"?

For my experiences, I won't be influenced by something (insulting words), only in the case I can't understand that language. :P
  • Hi TOFUTW, noticed that I wrote "修行看個人" at Stage 5 :) In your case, I would say that you have self-confidence and control of yourself, but it does not mean that you didn't go through Stage 4 to Stage 5 - it's just Stage 5 is no problem for you :)

To control emotions, one must be able to hear the emotions carried by the language. For many others, learning a new language pushes them back to being an insecure child. Learning English is also about learning how to deal with people who speak that language - it is communication and not just a school subject, in my opinion.

I am very glad to hear that my blog has helped you and especially happy to see that you raised a question after reflecting on your own experience. Keep up the good work!
